These are just a few of many disputes with the current problem of misogyny in the gaming world, and feminists such as Anita Sarkeesian and Zoe Quinn. I have absolutely no dispute over women’s rights for equality and respect since i know all to well how it is to be treated differently, however i am shocked and dismayed to find that even feminists like the ‘factual feminist’ have received death threats and hate mail from other feminists for defending ‘games under fire’. It is shocking to see such disingenuous and vitriolic behavior into the industry that so many people love and enjoy. While i strongly agree that objectifying women is certainly heinous, to abuse vulnerabilities and twist personal moral’s into ammunition for spreading hate is no less vial and disgusting.
Animation for assignment 2.
Finally got my animation of Choco out. I think the music suits particularly well and compliments the video.
This is a few shots of the texturing done with the gas station model. I love the lighting effects on this, and I’ve animated the one on the side of the building to flicker and flash randomly too, which just adds tonnes to the atmosphere. Being able to see Choco near the tree through the fog is also nice. I do like how this one turned out.
After getting my new tablet I had to test it out. I designed a new character from scratch with similarities to Choco, the character from Assignment 2. Meet Tanuke. He’s a 19-21 year old who is playful yet sly, cunning and mischievous. He has a strong fascination with Tanukies (think Super Mario Bros. 3), and wears a brown stripe top, orange worn jeans, and a little tanuki hat, complete with a little tail, and ears, which he will sometimes pull down over his face as a disguise.
Working on him with the larger tablet with the screen built into it is much better than a much smaller tablet and mouse. He’s mostly ready for Assignment 3. I got him drawn up as concept art, and modelled in 3D in around 24-28 hours, which is much quicker than Choco which took me around 48 hours, and that’s from already made concept art. I’m happy with the results.
